MARIA RYAN THERAPY
Healing Through Play
A BIT ABOUT MARIA
Hi, My name is Maria Ryan
I am a child and adolescent psychotherapist based in Dublin. I provide services in psychotherapy and play and creative play therapy to help and support children and teens with behavioural, emotional, and relationship issues. I have close to 15 years’ experience and through my clinical practice, I have gained a breadth of experience in ASD, disability, attachment, neglect, abuse and trauma. I have taken a special interest in working with teens, particularly in relation to identity, intellectual disability , asd and anxiety.
Using Play and Creative based psychotherapy can help explore, reorganise and potentially resolve big feelings in a developmentally appropriate and confidential space. In this way, your child can work in an appropriate space at an appropriate pace.
I work with children who may be impacted by:
Adoption/Fostering
Separation/Divorce
Feelings of anxiety or Overwhelmed
Bereavement
Anger or impulse control
Hospitalisation/ Early childhood trauma
Transitioning back to school post covid
Attachment Difficulties
Children may also find play therapy and psychotherapy useful in the following circumstances:
-
To help manage a transition
-
Build self-esteem, confidence and competence
-
Or to support and strengthen coping skills.
It is an ideal intervention for developing emotional literacy, fluency and regulation or school
related issues that may have affected their emotional regulation.
Autistic children or children who struggle with sensory processing difficulties may also benefit from working with a play therapist or child
psychotherapist.
